This past weekend I took a trip 3 hours south, then 45 minutes east, by bus to a town called Banos. It is a major tourist
town for the country, but lately it has been near empty of tourists due to the recent activity of the Tungurahua Volcano.
This weekend however, only some plumes of smoke and ash were coming out. The town itself sits at about 5,400 feet in elevation
at the base of the volcano. In Banos, I met up with three Norwegians that I had originally met in Quito. We rode mountain
bikes through several nearby towns, hiked the base of the volcano and enjoyed some fine coffee. Enjoy the pictures!
